Thank goodness. Sergeant Schultz at the White House knows nothing about the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-lago residence. For a minute, I was worried that the raid was part of the Deep State’s War on Trump.
See, I don’t get it.
Why should the Deep State care so much about Trump? What did he really do to curb their power in 2017-20? Even if he were to win the presidency in 2024 he would be gone in four years. And then a Democrat would come back and reward all the right people and the world would be set to rights. What’s the panic?
And if they succeed in preventing Trump from running again, it just clears the way for honeybadger DeSantis. And let me tell you, dear liberal friends; you don’t want to clear his path to the presidency by ditching Trump. After two terms of a President DeSantis, Trump will seem like a walk in the park.
Why would Congress be pushing the crazy stupid Inflation Reduction Act that spends a ton on money-losing clean energy projects and increases taxes? Hey, let’s say that in the long term clean energy will save the planet. But in the short term the plan will shrink the economy and voters really don’t like that. And all elective politicians live in the short term.
Maybe it’s as simple as this: rulers are always obsessed with the latest threat to their rule. Or with the latest shiny thing. Or with paying off their supporters. They really can’t think outside of that box.
Maybe that’s a basic fact of life we all need to keep in mind. Rulers aren’t very smart. Even when they are smart, like Stalin, Hitler, FDR, Mao, they do stupid things that Make Things Worse. Because a guy that has climbed to the top of the greasy pole probably knows nothing beyond the tricks of greasy pole-climbing.
It’s easy to imagine right now that the Biden administration has a cunning plan to ditch Trump and anyone that emerges to replace him.
But probably not. Probably they have blundered into this War on Trump because they don’t really know what they are doing. Probably their whole War on Trump will crumble away in the next year as economic difficulties take center stage and the Biden administration fumbles around trying to govern by insisting that a recession is not a recession, inflation is only transitory, and the important thing is to “stimulate” the economy with billions in spending for its supporters.
Maybe my problem is that I don’t realize how dumb the Democrats are. For instance, I think it is really important to understand the economy and the importance of not squashing it with government mandates. But I realize that our Democratic friends have a different idea. For them it is always time to increase spending on their supporters. If we are in a recession, the spending is “stimulus.” If we are in a normal economy, the spending is “social justice.” But there is no overarching understanding about the economy among the Democratic elite.
So they blunder from disaster to disaster and blame Trump. Because of course.
