For a racist-sexist-homophobe like me it is crazy — inconceivable — that after four years of Mayor Lori Lightfoot the voters of Chicago would elect a radical leftist like Brandon Johnson.
But then I thought, of course, Brandon Johnson is black and if a black doesn’t vote for the black, he “ain’t black,” in President Biden’s immortal phrase.
But then I thought more generally about the whole “defund the police” and the Soros prosecutors movement against incarceration.
Of course, one side of this is the very human refusal of our liberal friends to accept that just about everything they have pushed politically over the last century has Made Things Worse.
But I think another way to look at this is “jobs for minority women.”
What is the most powerful lobby in Chicago? The teachers’ union. And Brandon Johnson was a teachers union organizer. And gubmint teachers are now overwhelmingly women.
The other thing is that the “defund the police” movement proposes to shift monies from the guy jobs in the police department to the girl jobs in social welfare and mental health. Read this quote from Brandon Johnson:
On his campaign website, Johnson vowed he would “work with police and first responders to invest in community-based interventions that de-escalate conflict, reduce violence and make our neighborhoods safer” and “create an Office of Community Safety, reopen the city’s mental health clinics, fully fund year-round youth employment, and foster partnerships between communities and law enforcement to make critical investments preventing crime before it happens.”
When I read that paragraph I read “jobs for women.”
One of the takeaways from Charles Murray’s Coming Apart is in that the white lower class the men don’t work much and the women don’t marry much. I interpret that to mean that the women tend to have jobs, and the men tend to sponge off them.
Of course, the Secret Code in Coming Apart is that it applies to blacks in spades, but we are Not Allowed to talk about that, racist.
But what kind of jobs? Gubmint jobs, in education, welfare, mental health, and the 1,001 minor things that local governments do that you never heard of.
Imagine that you are a woman that lives in Chicago. I’ll bet you know of the friend of a friend that has a nice little job in the city mental health bureaucracy. And so, with a little increase in mental health funding, maybe you could get a job in the city mental health “community” too. Vote for Brandon Johnson.
I know. What could go wrong?
I believe that One Fine Day we should defund everything except the municipal police and the Coastguard, because just about every government program is a grift, from gubmint education to gubmint welfare. That’s because I believe that everything in politics reduces to beating up on your enemy, or dishing out bennies to your supporters.
People are very short sighted. It is hard to tell someone that they will be better off in the future with a little sacrifice now. I can't judge. Delay of gratification is tough for me too. But logic tells you not to walk into a trap too. Well, there is that logic word again. Forget I said it.
