So, you tell me. Is the fight over the Speakership a Good Thing or a Bad Thing? Good or Bad for America? Or the GOP? Or the Democrats? Or “our democracy?” Or what?
Who knows?
At ConservativeTreeHouse, Sundance says:
According to Politico, the Congressional Leadership Fund (team McCarthy) has come to an agreement with the Club for Growth Fund (team not McCarthy) and worked out a deal the representatives may be permitted to support.
Listen: Congress is the cockpit where the interests battle for their share of the loot. I get the impression that the battle for the loot is getting tougher and tougher.
That’s why, I presume, Congress no longer passes legislation and appropriations by regular order. Instead, in the Nancy Pelosi years, everything — everything — came out of the Speaker’s office.
Now, I presume that the rebels that are resisting the McCarthy speakership are fighting for more power for committee chairmen — so that ordinary mortals can get their fingers on the loot.
Presumably, therefore, the process of divvying up the loot is not as relaxed as it used to be.
And I suppose, since Rule One is that the one thing that really gets people mad is when that check from the government fails to show up, the problem is that, since the whole point of government is to share out loot, and the old loot doesn’t count, then various interests are amping up the fight for loot, every budget time.
Or something.
I guess, it doesn’t matter for ordinary mortals. Whatever happens, I’ll just be on the receiving end.
I think they will finally settle on McCarthy. But I support the fight. I hope they humble that sorry man before they finally give in. I hope they extract some concessions in writing from him. I don't think Congress understands how the constant betrayal of Americans sits with us out here in the hinterlands. They go on living their sorry lives and leave us stuck with the bill
