Every good person knows that farming and cows and Dutch farmers are eevil. But I’m in the Douro, the port wine district in Portugal, right now. And this is what I saw during an afternoon walk.
I Am Shocked.
How could this be? How could the wine industry, the fabled port wine industry, that for centuries has been providing good honest London clubs with gentlemanly refreshment. How could this industry be committing such rape of the planet?
Take a closer look.
I Am Shaking.
I mean. Look at that hillside, cut up and plowed up. All for the sake of rich people getting fancy alcoholic drinks! Think of the natural landscape with its grass and pines, torn up and stripped bare. Just for the sake of big capital.
I Am Shocked.
Think of the possibilities of rain. This area is subject to big thunderstorms. Think of the possibilities of a flood destroying the carved out area in the bottom left of the picture, that was probably carved out by a construction-scale excavator.
I Am Shaking.
Where are you activists? Where is Extinction Rebellion? Where are young people that care about the planet?
How come I have never heard of this environmental blight? Is it because billionaires like to have mansions in this picturesque region? Is it because big money just is not going to let environmental activists spoil their money-making rape of the planet?
I Am Shocked
What is this all about? Where’s Joe Biden? Where’s the IPCC? Where are the DEI administrators?
I just can’t understand this.
And I am shaking.
