You know about all those far right neo-fascist populist white nationalists in Europe that voted for the far right neo-fascist populist nationalist Literally Hitler parties in the recent EU elections?
I thought it was all about far right neo-fascist populist white nationalist racists opposing immigration. But David P. Goldman says that the major issue for those far right neo-fascist populist white nationalist voters was not immigration — or even saving the climate. No it was something else. Not the sort of thing you’d expect from far right neo-fascist populist white nationalist warmonger voters.
[I]nternal pollsters for the Alternative für Deutschland (Alternative for Germany) reported that the Ukraine war was the top concern for German voters. Twenty-six percent of respondents said that “securing peace” was their number one concern, followed by social security (at 23 percent) and immigration at 17 percent, according to an AfD internal document.
Wat? You mean to say that far right neo-fascist populist white nationalist voters aren’t down for the liberation of Ukraine? You mean Literally Hitler voters are voting against war? But there’s worse.
[T]he Greens—now the most vociferous supporter of the Ukraine War—fell to 12 percent from 20.5 percent in the 2019 elections.
But, but, but. I thought all those lefty save-the-planet Greens — die Grünen in Deutsch — were all for Peace! I just can’t believe it!
And there is worse.
France’s President Emmanuel Macron, the European leader most anxious to send troops to Ukraine, suffered a surprise humiliation. His party polled less than 15 percent of the vote, while the right-wing National Rally gained 31 percent. Unlike Germany, where the peace parties were the biggest winners, the French right has fudged its position on the Ukraine War. But the repudiation of Europe’s leader most willing to commit Western troops is a gauge of antiwar sentiment.
So. Do you think this is a Russia Russia intelligence operation like the one that elected Donald Trump in 2016? Surely not. Because we all know that back in the 1930s all the Germans were ready, willing and able for world conquest. And in the 1960s all far right Americans were all in for bashing the Commies in Vietnam if not elsewhere.
Or maybe not.
My Narrative is that ordinary middle-class humans are not that big on world wars. Oh, sure if college president Woodrow Wilson cooks up a war to bash the Boche in Europe then all the graduating college seniors in Doris Day musicals like On Moonlight Bay will rush to enlist. And after genius President Roosevelt saved the nation from the Great Depression what patriotic Americans — except hard right ingrates like Charles Lindbergh — would not gladly sign up to be GIs. Anyway, a mere 400,000 Americans died in World War II, unlike the 7,000,000 Germans. Not to mention the 27,000,000 Russians. And I don’t have any number on the Ukrainians. So maybe those Euros have had enough of glorious war.
No, my Narrative is that it takes the members and sub-members of a ruling class to be the real enthusiasts for war — any war: world or COVID or climate. Because there is no politics without an enemy, and therefore everyone in politics is looking for or chasing after an enemy, thinking of the glorious victory that will make them saviors of the nation forever. And, the fact is that if you are a ruler and you are not waving the flag and bellowing “once more unto the breach, dear friends” what’s the point. Bill Clinton once opined that he would never be a great president because he didn’t have a war on his watch. But if you are not a paid-up member of the ruling class, what’s the point of a war for you?
With all these far right neo-fascist populist white nationalist racists overturning the political status-quo I think we’d better start setting up the bleachers in Europe so we can all watch the game. It’s possible that we might be seeing Real Change. Or Fundamental Transformation. Or Hope and Change. Or Real Reform. Or whatever your favorite slogan is. Not the fake kind brought to you by your usual educated ruling class. On issues that ordinary people care about. Like no more war on the Northern European Plain. Been there done that. No more unlimited immigration. Because we ordinary people just want to live an ordinary life and we want immigrants to learn that it is an honor to be invited to join the national culture in each European nation, and it is shameful to form their own mini-nations in their ethnic enclaves.
And as part of our national cultures we celebrate our fossil fuel cars and fossil fuel plane trips — unlike devoted activists that hate unnecessary travel but need to fly all the time to vitally important international conferences on Magic Mountains that will save the planet in 12 years or less.
Back in the day, the hero of the Battle of Waterloo, Arthur Wellesley the Duke of Wellington, complained about railways. He complained that they would encourage “the poor to travel around needlessly.” Hey, Art — short for Arthur — you shoulda seen the Seattle airport this morning. Absolutely crammed with people about to travel around needlessly. And you know that it’s needless. All the people that really need to fly go private.
When you think about, the current ruling class war on climate is just the same as the Iron Duke’s complaint about railways. But I can’t help thinking that if Britain had railways in 1810 then poor Fanny Price wouldn’t have been stuck in Portsmouth for months instead of being at Mansfield Park where her heart belonged. She could just have stepped on a train for London and then out to Mansfield Park.
Meanwhile, you high-minded Euro tippy-toppers. How about working towards Peace in Ukraine? You high-minded educated types are all for Peace. Right?
In The American Spectator today, Nate Hochman writes as how conservatism lost decades ago, because the old bourgeois elite had been overthrown by the “managerial elite that seized power in the reforms of the Progressive Era and the New Deal.”
True. But never mind about the old bourgeois elite. We are talking about the ordinary middle class, from Hungary in the east, and Germany and France and Britain to the ordinary suburbs of the United States. We are saying: enough of the managerial elite and its failed programs and its divisive politics that has enriched the educated elite and ruined the underclass and stigmatized the ordinary middle class as racist oppressors and raised up fake victims like LGBT.
This new order is yet to be formed and nobody knows who will be the ruling class and what will happen to the old order of the intelligence community, the bureaucracy, the NGOs and Activism Central.
Indeed, there is only one thing that we are all agreed upon. The educated class must give up its unjust power and surrender to the ordinary culture of ordinary middle-class people, the “far right neo-fascist populist white nationalists” of which you’ve heard tell.
But politics must have an enemy. Who is the enemy? Obviously, the deep state from the intelligence community, the bureaucracy, the NGOs and Activism Central to Fake Victims Central.
What is the political formula of the new regime? It’s simple. We fight for the ordinary people of America and their culture against the deep state and the fake victims.
This is not that hard.
