Of course there are two Niles in Egypt: the Blue Nile and, OMG, the White Nile.
We all know the horror of Climate Deniers and Holocaust Deniers: literally Hitler. If you contest ruling-class Narrative you are a denier. Period, full stop.
But, of course, there is another kind of denial: ruling-class denial. Steve Sailer notes a DCNN story about Gun Violence.
Mass shootings in major metropolitan areas in the United States disproportionately affect Black people, and structural racism may play a role, according to a study published on Wednesday in the journal JAMA Surgery.
Oh yeah, gotta be. Couldn’t be because of gangs and absent fathers. Oh no. That would be racist.
But the CNN piece made me think. For a change. Whether we are talking about deniers or denial, that river in Egypt is all about the ruling class controlling the Narrative. One side of the river is the ruling class controlling the Narrative, and you are Not Allowed to disagree with the Narrative. The other side of the river is the ruling class in denial about what a mess it has made of things.
Let’s start with “science denier.” Anyone that knows a teeny weeny bit about modern science knows that denial has nothing to do with the case. If you build buildings using the findings of Newtonian mechanics, your building doesn’t fall down. But Newtonian mechanics is no help at all when you want to build an H-bomb. You could say that anyone trying to build an H-bomb using Newtonian mechanics is a science denier, but who cares? If you are a gubmint wanting to enter the nuclear club you don’t worry about calling the Newtonians science deniers. You just go to German-Americans like J. Robert Oppenheimer and tell him to get on with the job. OK, so he comes up with an A-bomb. Big deal.
But when the government has decided to turn the economy upside down to save the world from climate change, then any scientist that disagrees with the policy is a science denier. Oh yeah? In a perfect world, it wouldn’t matter what the scientists thought. The only thing that matters is: does it work? But in our world, the ruling class uses science as a battering ram to enforce its will, and there are plenty of scientists ready, willing and able to support the government’s line in the hope of getting research money.
We saw the corruption of science during the late COVID crisis. Scientists that disagreed with the government line were censored and marginalized; scientists that supported the government line were lionized. So who was right?
Are you familiar with the saying that if you mix honey with ordure, the result is ordure? So, obviously, if you mix science with politics you get politics.
But why? Why does the government do this?
It’s simple. The only thing that government does — when it can spare time from gifting its supporters — is go to war. It could be a domestic war against, say, greedy bankers; or it could be a foreign war, against commies or fascists. Once you are at war, then no backchat is allowed. The only thing is fighting the war to its inevitable victory. Anyone disagreeing is a conspiracy theorist, an armed insurrectionist, or a traitor. Take your pick.
But what happens when things go wrong in the glorious war? Denial, that’s what. It makes sense. Because usually, when a ruling class loses a war it loses its power and is forced to rely on its Swiss bank accounts.
